You’ve Got Mail—4

Singing at camp is The Best!

All those voices in one place joined together in song. All those hand motions stirring the air. All the nonsense and hilarity or sentiment and sweetness of the lyrics touching a place deep inside us. All the clatter and clamor of everything going on in the dining hall providing a syncopation.

A morning song to celebrate the beginning of a new day, silver and green and gold.

Taps to close the day—all is well, safely rest.

These postcards capture the lyrics of one such song. I can’t write the words without singing. Can’t sing the words without having the essence of camp—CAMP!—fill my heart to overflowing.

      1. I went to many camps. I did go to a YMCA camp in Maine one summer, where we had hikes on rainy days. Mainly went to Workman’s Circle Jewish Camp in Worcester,Ma. My paternal grandfather was active in this association.
