Mindful Meandering
While I paint and collage and create, the primary gift is presence, being here and now. In large measure, especially as I get increasingly pulled into any one particular creative undertaking, I do not think with verbal language at all but engage wordlessly with the sensory processing of and physical interaction with my emerging art piece.
But, at various stages in the process, my mind does meander from one thought to another, sometimes landing on a practical concern—Uh oh, what time is it? Do I need to start dinner prep?, at other times chewing on an unresolved life circumstance—What on earth am I going to do to make amends for saying what I said at that meeting?
As this series of CutUps of mine has unfolded, I’ve paused more than once to ponder what my muse Henri Matisse may have mused about while he fashioned his paper cut-out creations.
