At Some Point or Another / September 18, 2024

At Some Point or Another

The development of an imagined piece
into an actual piece
is a progression of decreasing possibilities,
as each step in execution
reduces future options
by converting one—and only one—
possibility into reality.
Finally,
at some point or another,
the piece could not be other than it is,
and it is done.

  1. I always love the power of transparency, of written text (preferably unreadable ;-)), and little patches of printed text in artwork. I love this one!

    1. Simone, it’s fun to have us share a love of transparency, written text, and little patches of printed text in artwork. I took such pleasure in finding printed text whose background color matched the art and kept itself relatively subtle and whose content was meaningful to me. I also enjoyed the pleasure and playfulness of putting bits of art in quotation marks : )

Thank you for your appreciation of my sense of composition and color—I do love playing with both : )

  4. The quotation marks are so fun Dotty. The fun textures in the original are so fun, and your reworking really elevates the elements. Delightful! ðŸ™‚

    1. Sheila, hooray for all the feedback on visual language in this piece—thank you! I couldn’t resist the quotation marks, which I saw as being what I guess I would call “gestural,” i.e. they’d suggest that words might be contained within. It wasn’t until afterwards that I came to see them as quoting artistic language : )

I loved the challenge of taking those textures in the original piece and reworking them to see if I could elevate them. Happy for your seeing the delight in them!

    1. That quotation resonated with me, too!

Thanks for your words of affirmation about this piece and its reaching that point where it could not be other than it is : )
