Collage Botanica Diary, 3: Quagmire / August 5, 2024

Collage Botanica Diary, 3: Quagmire

Great word! I’m loving the squishy flat-footed messy sound of that word, even though I find myself in a protracted mental and creative quagmire of late.

Nothing for it but to take one squishy flat-footed messy step at a time, no matter how small and/or painstaking, so that’s what I’m doing.

  1. It IS a great word Dotty….and all of us artists spend a good deal of time wallowing in it. The one messy step at a time is the only way out! And sometimes….magic can happen in the mess!

I do like that little corner of a piece I see! Those “word daisies(?)” are pretty cool!

    1. Thanks, MaryAnn, I’m hoping for magic despite feeling stuck currently. Magic or not, I’ll take more steps to see what I learn.

The word daisies are part of a piece I painted several years ago and love. What you see in the photo here is a photo enlargement of that piece that became a page in one of my annual calendars. I thought it might inform some of my choices with my quagmire-in-progress.

      1. Thanks for the clarification. It’s always good to revisit what we love for inspiration.

Is that an image of a can on the right? So interesting.

      2. Yes, image of a can! From one of my boxes of magazine-page collage fodder.

    1. Here’s what I love about my blog: I can be wallowing in a quagmire in my studio but you, dear friend, and my other art friends, can see the squishy messy slog as cause for celebration, applause, and huzzahs! YES! THANK YOU, Lola!

  3. I can’t wait to see what comes of that piece. I’m liking it already, Dotty. Maybe it needs some time to percolate. Sometimes I set something aside for weeks, months. I say to myself that I’ll know what comes next when the time is right. ♥️

    1. Roseanne, so grateful for your encouragement to pause. For starters, I’m pausing right now for three conscious breaths. Thank you, thank you.

Percolation for this piece may be just the ticket : )
