Small Victories / May 10, 2024

Small Victories

I’ve just begun rereading Anne Lamott’s book of essays, Small Victories: Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace, this time in audiobook format read by Anne herself. My heart keeps nodding yes!, yes!, yes! as Anne reads.

Today’s small victory lay in a favorable shift in energy that took me to my studio after avoiding a particularly frustrating and seemingly unsalvageable work-in-progress for a fortnight.

Today’s improbable moment of grace lay in seeing the mess I’d created as a chance to experiment with abandon—instead of feeling bedeviled, I suddenly embraced a devil-may-care spirit of cheerful recklessness.

  2. And what a victory it is! I love your “devil-may-care spirit of cheerful recklessness!” It’s just delightful! I just adore all the little details and words in the flowers, and the background texture is amazing! Well done!

And is that a bit of fabric I spy?

    1. Yes, indeedy-do, a bit of fabric in this one : )

I appreciate your feedback, MaryAnn. The cheerful recklessness is what saved me, and this piece. We were both in rough shape for a while there!

    1. Thanks, Sheila. I was grateful to stay with this one and come around with loving attention to a place where I could love it also : )
