Walk Right In / June 21, 2024

Walk Right In

This is one of those art inquiries where my whole self just walked right in to presence, to the call and response of creating something with the limited materials I had with me, in the setting where I found myself, letting the hand-and-eye dance move through me in whatever way it would.

  1. After you post about “backdoor art”….the fact that you just walked right in the front door on this one is so fabulous. And you nailed it! I love the subject matter….the colors…the composition and all those yummy textures!

    1. The creative process can be capricious—I sure am grateful for those times when the stars line up for all the glories of process to be in full swing, outcome be damned. I was actually surprised to kinda like the outcome here, too! Thanks for your welcome nods to subject matter, color, composition, and texture, MaryAnn.

  2. You know, I can see and feel those rocks/pebbles rolling down the hill because the foreground is so move-y. The rock shadows are perfect. What I REALLY love, though, is that sky. It’s soft and textured and pastoral. I guess what I’m saying is I really love this piece, Dotty.

    1. RoseAnne, so appreciative of your feedback here! What’s really fun for me is that I was playing with watercolor, with which I have little experience, AND I was mixing other media with the watercolor without knowing what to expect, again because I have little experience. All of which put me in a good beginner’s mind space, and precluded ‘control’ that I might otherwise have exerted. I, too, find the sky very appealing in its softness and textures. I ended up feeling ‘rewarded’ for my experimenting and mucking about : )

  3. Sometimes it’s so good to be restricted in your possibilities! Love the fact that you just show up and do it!

    1. Simone! Thanks for your affirmation of my showing up and doing it! I often forget self-affirmation : (

I HAVE been showing up and doing it, even while feeling largely at sea in the doing.
