Collage Botanica Diary, 5

Well, that was fun!

Today I started Session 2, Lesson 3 of Amanda Evanston’s Collage Botanica class, feeling apprehensive about taking the first step. But!—had a great time and came away light of heart.

When cleaning/decluttering/reorganizing recently, I came across a 12 x 12″ wood panel on which I’d previously started something. Probably two somethings. Decided to use it as a canvas for Session 2.

two-layered start from I don’t know when

Reviewed Amanda’s video for Session 2: The Flower Shop, Lesson 3: Underlayers Are Everything, Step 1: Tinted Canvas. In the lesson, one starts with a blank canvas. I did not. Therefore, I had to overcome my all-too-familiar resistance to letting go.

Did it! Rotated my canvas and committed splashes of paint to its surface.

only way out will be through

Spread the paint haphazardly with a squeegee, grabbed a chip brush and got some paint on the 3/4″ deep edges. Had fun!

tinted canvas, work in progress

  1. Just do something! Good things happen when one thing leads to another: A new lesson….apprehension…cleaning and decluttering…letting go…a new perspective…splashing and scraping all led to some FUN! And a great start on lesson three! Woo Hoo!

    1. MaryAnn, I just came from my studio where I was in search of some bookmarks (parts of a whole) to explore a JUST DO SOMETHING idea I have related to voting and, let me tell you, one thing led to another to another to another to another to another, and what I was in search of was located in the very last place I looked. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the overabundance of riches I found while searching, and the resulting inspiration and ideas that were pinging and exploding and firing every which way. Your comment regrounded me and affirmed that good things happen when one thing leads to another.

    1. Ironic that it is both my super power and kryptonite, but perhaps that is often the case? For sure the challenge of letting go is one I confront regularly!
