Process! #6
With masking tape removed, the project is essentially complete. Amanda suggests now’s the time to apply a little bit of a sort of compositional structure but, guys, don’t turn this into something to match your couch. I know it’s tempting, but DON’T do it! Let your guts hang out. This is not about making something pretty.
Amanda never starts and ends a piece in one session, says she’ll set hers aside for 1-2 days and show it again later. However, while she does feature others’ finished work, we never see hers again. Guess I’m on my own.
I look at my work in progress, know it’s not done, have no idea how I’ll proceed. Then, after a seeming lapse of consciousness, I find I’m in my studio, bottle of India ink with dropper in hand, big fat cursive words landing on my project. Um, a little bit of a sort of compositional structure?
Maybe?

Personally….I think it’s just the Dotty touch it needed to pull it together. It unifies it…and is a nod to the original intentions underneath. The black is very grounding.
Now….I also won’t be surprised if you go through the steps again. That’s a Dotty touch too!

MaryAnn, I so appreciate your feedback on visual language here, i.e. the way the India ink unifies and grounds the piece and gives a nod to the original intentions that are still in place even if no longer visible. I’m plunking all that welcome info down into wherever it is that my intuition resides. Then, we’ll all see what evolves, if anything!

Sheila, thank you for joining MaryAnn in offering up wonderful feedback on visual language. So helpful to have you reflect on the varied weights of the scribbles and the way those scribbles pull details together and allow colors to pop. And this: “dainty chaos mixed with bold blocks” along with “I can tell you had fun”—you help me meld metacognitive and intuitive : )

I’m fascinated myself, as I review all the phases. And that writing definitely makes a difference.
