As the Crow Flies
How many miles long, as the creative crow flies, was the madcap journey that eventually landed gently in my scraps diary as this two-page spread?
The flight:
• This spread began, if any creative expression actually has an identifiable beginning, years ago as a postcard from my Takodah family camp friend Stuart announcing a Prayers for Peace art show.
• I later used the postcard as a substrate for experimenting with high-flow acrylics while vacationing in a cabin at Watoga State Park in West Virginia.
• Sometime well after that vacation I cut the painting into bookmarks and gave two as gifts.
• Yesterday I cut the one remaining bookmark into two segments that became the base of today’s two-page spread.
• A recent mailing from online artist friend Lola then caught my eye. I’d won the August Reader Giveaway at her blog. The giveaway, in my case, turned out to be two painted pages for me to use for collage fodder—TREASURE, I tell ya!—and a note written on a greeting card featuring an image of one of Lola’s paintings (omg, the blue-black of the crow!). I harvested two bits of treasure from the greeting card to use as collage in my scraps diary.
• Finally, I journaled an in-the-moment thought with asemic writing.
What fun I have!
