Young@Heart

Painting this 6 x 6″ grid of hearts put me in mind of an amazing chorus called Young@Heart. We attended a live perfomance many years ago and have seen them featured a few times on television. Totally life-affirming!

The performers range in age from 75-102, with no one younger than 70 allowed! They perform rock and pop music worldwide and inspire and uplift audiences with their voices, their humor, and their emotionally moving shows. They are masters at human connection through music (go to 18:23 for a rendition of “I Remember It Well” from the 1958 movie Gigi).

A heartwarming feature of this choral community: members never pay a penny out of pocket to participate—not for travel, rehearsals, or performances. Young@Heart is their community, their stage, and their voice, and the organization behind the performers ensures that financial barriers never stand in their way.

And, speaking of inspiration and connection, Amanda Evanston once again inspired me with a demo she offered online.

    1. Simone! Thank you! I love that with your singing experience in choruses you will be well able to imagine/hear the young-at-heart choral voice of these hearts.

    1. MaryAnn, thanks for loving this piece and post with me. I lost myself contentedly over the weekend, layer after layer after splatter after slapdash after fussybrush after connection after magic, and was so happy to have the Young@Heart chorus bubble up from within. I may have to do a second one. I’ve got plenty more gessobords ready for a paintover!

    1. Thanks for reflecting back to me the colors and the way the hearts seem to dance, Roseanne. We certainly need color and dance these days, don’tcha think? As I may have mentioned to you already, I’m thinking I might paint a second panel of robber hearts. TBD.
