The Joy of Process / October 3, 2023

The Joy of Process

I am having such a wonderful time working on my newest painting, a few minutes here, a few minutes there. You may recall that I pressed pause once I had the 30 x 30″ canvas prepared with a colored ground. I’d wanted to play with and practice some new approaches in my sketchbook before working on the large format.

Hahaha!

That didn’t last long. The practice page felt confiningly small, and in no time at all I found myself having mixed up more of a color than I could use on the page. What to do with that surfeit of mixed paint?

To the canvas I went.

I am loving working large and loose with this painting.

I have a devil of a time getting a decent photo but I do want to get at least one work-in-progress shot on record for myself here.

    1. It DOES feel lovely to work so big again even though, as you know, I love to work small as well!

I’m eager to see how this evolves also, especially since I have a very strong affinity with process of late.

  2. The joy of the process….YES! Good for you for diving in. Large and loose is not something I’ve done much of….but maybe someday! Great start!

    1. You know that feeling of diving in—sometimes a girl’s just gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! Large and loose is not something I’ve done much either, but I am so happy working on this piece. Thanks for your encouragement and cheerleading, MaryAnn : )

  3. Sylvia, love having you pop up here—thanks! Skye’s modeling of looseness and painting abstract flora feels very accessible to me; no small miracle, that, and one for which I’m very grateful.

    1. Thanks, Sheila, and will do! I’m on vacation now so won’t be playing with this piece for awhile but I do have art supplies with me and hope to do some on-holiday explorations. Stay tuned!
