Ready for Hallowe’en / October 27, 2023

Ready for Hallowe’en

As a kindergartener, I was so excited, and thought I was ready for Hallowe’en when I ordered a robot costume from a Sears catalog. Couldn’t wait to walk around stiff-jointed in my metal costume. But … hahaha! … the costume from Sears was made out of the ubiquitous chintzy fabric of all such costumes, much to my great disappointment.

This year I’m ready for Hallowe’en, no ifs, ands, or buts.

new painting on display in our front entry,
ready to shine light on trick-or-treaters

    1. omg, Lola, picture 5 year old me and the major disappointment! In the end, the happy takeaway was that the ‘mask’ that came with the costume was box shaped and fitted over the whole head, with appropriate holes for vision and breathing. As such, it covered my braids and when I wore it to our school Hallowe’en celebration, my teacher couldn’t guess who the robot was!

  3. This painting gave me entrée into a bit of the spirit of Hallowe’en, a holiday I could easily skip without feeling any loss (and I have been known to find alternative activities away from my house a few times). I’m pleased and grateful to be part of things this year! And I’m pleased to be ready—my part is done : )

    1. Carol, thanks—the light was what caught my attention when I saw the reel that prompted me to try my hand at this painting : )

  5. I remember a Halloween when my brother and I had to settle for being ghosts. Homemade of course, from bed sheets. And to add even more to my dorkiness, my sheet was white with pale green stripes. Haha. Our saving grace was that no one could see our faces. 🙂 Love this Dotty 🙂
