Another You’ve-Got-Mail Postcard Postscript / October 29, 2023

Another You’ve-Got-Mail Postcard Postscript

In the same measure that I was disappointed when I learned that only 15 of the 24 postcards I mailed to Caroline and Emmy at camp between August 2nd and August 15th actually made it to camp, I have subsequently had great fun having some of the wayward cards—a bit tattered and travel-worn—land back in my mailbox, at which time I promptly pop them into envelopes, send them to C&E in Virginia, and we have a grand laugh!

Cards marked Return to Sender (RTS) have been finding their way back to me off and on since early September. One of the first was stamped indicating that the card didn’t meet minimal size specifications—it was 3 x 5″ instead of 3 1/2 x 5″ … as were many of the cards that did get to camp!

When I returned from vacation mid-October, our held mail was delivered on the 16th and I discovered four more RTS postcards!

hahaha!

  1. This may end up being the most memorable part of the “you’ve got mail” story. It’s all good…but this now stretches the fun out…and the cards will be even more appreciated. What a journey they have been on! Keep us posted! (pun intended)

    1. My thinking exactly—those postcards are gifts that keep on giving! What I thought would be a two-week connection has been ongoing for three months now hahaha! I’d love it if the remaining AWOL cards all showed up eventually. I’d also love to know what the actual journey of each postcard has been—where it traveled, how long it sat in any one location, what triggered its departure from wherever it was stalled and got it back into my mailbox.

  2. So much fun to keep getting cards! Yes, what fun if they could tell their story!

    1. I really do wish the postcards could tell their stories, along with the Brené Brown book I mailed to a friend for her bday last January—I’m hoping SOMEone got to read that book!
