Getting in My Own Way 1
Creating art is such a crazy proposition for me. What I actually create are problems to solve, complications to untangle, disasters to rectify, stumbling blocks to navigate.
And it appears that I do so willingly, although with any one particular project it is not with that deliberate intention or mindset that I set out.
Two days ago I started a new painting with a sheet of 11 x 14″ canvas-textured paper, a taped grid, three colors plus white, and the desire to enjoy another quick intuitive experience of flow. I grabbed India ink, a dip pen, and a chunky black Stabilo Woody watercolor pencil, got a quick intuitive flow of lines onto the page, … and froze!
I loved the linework and could not get myself to take a next step.
