UnReel

I want to have on record for myself some still shots of this week’s painting process—a studio souvenir of my time at Lost River. This painting sketch remains an active work in progress, currently on pause while I wend my way back to Massachusetts, but I want its progress to date in my online journal here.

taped grid on watercolor paper;
first marks, left-handed—hard charcoal pencil followed by
thicker charcoal pencil
Blick matte blue medium acrylic, applied with a small make-up brush
with varying amounts of Liquitex white gesso mixed in
Golden Hi-Flow transparent acrylic phthalo blue
applied sparingly directly from eye dropper;
diluted Liquitex titanium white applied as linework
from fine-line applicator bottle
India ink applied from eye-dropper
and then manipulated on the page in some places
using the edge of a narrow strip of plastic gift card
left-handed asemic writing added using fine tip pen,
with page oriented alternately “right”side up, upside down, and sideways
closeup of asemic writing
Blick matte hand-mixed green acrylic applied with small make-up brush;
another round of fine-line diluted Liquitex titanium white scribbles
added splatter of Blick matte yellow medium acrylic
highlighted yellow splatter with touches of
Golden Hi-Flow transparent Hansa yellow medium
and added a quick page-wide scribble
with Stabilo ultramarine Woody watercolor pencil
removed tape;
WIP paused for now …

    1. You’re welcome! I never tire of seeing the process and progressions of others, and I like having frequent documentation of my own.
