Moniker
If you’re not familiar with the word moniker, you may think I’ve acquired a Boston accent and plan to write about someone named Monica, hahaha!
But, no. I’m here to share a nickname, aka a moniker, for the art in which I play with cut-out paper shapes and which I referred to as mini-Matisses when I experimented recently in my art journal with tiny 2 x 2″ compositions.
Whether mini, midi, or maxi, future pieces in which I feature shapes cut from paper will be called CutUps, both because cutting is central to the creation of such pieces and because, I confess, I have a smidgen of personal history as a cutup myself, i.e. a person who acts in a comic or boisterous way. Ask my friend Martha about my getting called out of our senior English class by our teacher Miss McGlynn who wanted to be sure I understood that some of my side comments during class were, in her words, not funny.

CutUps soon to follow
