The Go-Aheadness of It All

Here is another thing I like

about a good friendship,

the go-aheadness of it all.

You don’t have to knock

to come in the door.

You don’t have to ask

to look in the refrigerator.

You want coffee?

Pour some.

Two weeks ago, we headed to downeast Maine to hang out with can't-find-better friends John and Mary for a weekend of non-stop talk, lotsa laugh-out-loud, and lively long walks hither and yon. Sunday morning, early hours, I pulled out my sketchbook and got rolling with a mostly blind-contour drawing of a reading sofa and cushioned wicker chair in our guest accommodations. Blind contour is so deliciously wonky and satisfying.

I love everything about this post: the quote...the trip you took and image I have about the people you visited and your time together....and of course....the contour drawing. Which like you said...is "deliciously wonky and satisfying." Well done!

MaryAnn, fun to get your feedback with its various specificities—thank you! I took pleasure in our visit w/ J&M, pleasure in drawing myself a souvenir of our weekend, pleasure in relecting on all of same in words.

"Can't find better" certainly describes John and Mary to a "T," and it captures you and Dave equally well. It's so much fun too imagine you all together, and I believe I have spent some time in the furniture you so beautifully captured. What a great quote! What a delightful picture! What a spectacular post!

PS I do know the difference between to, two and too, but computer dictation doesn't!

Carolyn, I thought of you when I posted this piece since you know the cast of characters and I figured you might recognize the furniture even in its blind contour distortedness : )

A favorite quotation, for sure.

LOL at your comment on the vagaries of computer dictation. Meg and I have just recently begun dictating our daily texts to each other and the misfires are worth their weight in belly laughter!

Not wonky at all, what a great idea. I will adopt the drawing habit. love the colored version as well! Have you tried adding water in some areas?

Yaaaaaasssss indeed! I like being 'forced' into less 'control'—I've also recently taken up dictating some of my texts without editing the (hilarious and confusing) results, another wonky adventure!!

Blind contour drawing has a strong pull for me, both in the doing and the viewing of outcome. THANK YOU for your suggestion to add water in some areas—the 'some' part of the equation really appeals to me and hadn't occurred to me at all. Fun idea!
