Portal

Another postcard—second one developed from a section of a larger start painted a year ago June in a cottage on Lake Champlain.

I am slack-jawed in wonder yet again by the mystery of creating a whole world in a plot of real estate that measures no more than four by six inches. I pick up brush, or pencil, or pastel, or collage, and find myself somewhere else entirely, in an expansive realm without boundaries.

Viewed on the screen, this DOES seem expansive! I admire your ability to create worlds on small things. Those jutting "rocks" make me smile. :)

The screen, of course, gives no indication of actual size! I've done some larger painting lately and have loved exploring the gifts of going bigger than is my custom. And then I bumped into my start from last year, and elected to chop it up into whatever compositions presented themselves in 4x6" format, and am also happy as a clam to work small—which ends up not feeling small at all! The 'rocks' appeal to me, too. Thanks, Jen : )

Interesting — where you see rocks, I see Kelsey Point muscles!

Correction: mussels!

I am on top of the mesa, looking down at a clear blue stream. Sagebrush hides it from view of the wide valley beyond.
Cool, clear, water. ;)

Mussels muscling their way around Old Kelsey Point. Remember cracking them open, tying a string around the exposed flesh, and dunking the bait down to catch crabs?

Love all these differing interpretations! The gift of art! Thanks for painting a poem with words here, Sheila : )

I always admire your bravery in cutting up larger pieces and receiving gems. I am in a bit of a stagnation stage, except for my daily doodles. May go looking for some gems!

Carol, thanks for the nod to my 'bravery.' Since it often isn't hard for me to cut up larger pieces, I'm not sure if doing so qualifies as bravery, but it does feel a bit adventurous/bold/reckless and I'm always grateful for that energy when it makes itself known.

I'm also grateful for the little surge of postcard play that is emerging in what has been an extended period of relative hibernation for me. Keep on doodling! Go looking for gems!
