She took careful steps
across the floor,
as if moving too fast
might set something in motion
that hadn’t yet begun.

Amazing how a few strips of collage can describe movement! Your simple way of turning prose into poetry. a gift!
Hey, Carol, thanks for your feedback. I have such fun painting with collage! Happy that you enjoy my finding a way to share the prose poems I 'discover' as I read novels : )
The Pilot's Wife! Yes! And this little bit of motion...so careful in a world of chaos outside. Masterful.
Thanks, Jen! Do you read Shreve? I writing and stories capture me, and I love her Fortune's Rocks quartet, of which TPW is one of the books.
I read The Pilot's Wife long ago, and one other whose title I cannot recall. Her writing is amazing!
Just noticed my typo in my earlier comment: I/her!
I've probably read everything Shreve has written, TPW twice before this most recent read, first in 1998.
Lost in the dark feast of pattern and texture :)
Loving your prose poem of a comment, Sheila. Thank you!
