Unseen Forces

So many forces at work that we are not able to see with the naked eye.

Copy Cat

Lyme disease has earned many names, one of the most common of which is “The Great Imitator” because the condition is so complicated and can often be very difficult to diagnose, mimicking the symptoms of some 350 diseases.

Today at Lyme Camp, I grab at the chance to be a small-peanuts imitator, mimicking someone else's painting because to do so is uncomplicated, because that is how I am able to paint on this day at this time in this place.

Complete vs. Completed

I see this piece as an outward manifestation of a burst of inward tumult. It is not a completed painting. That would be something different. It is what I'd call a complete self-expression.

The inward tumult has passed through, as inward tumults do. It is complete. It has, however, left a vapor trail, traces of having blown past.

Most likely I will pick up this scrappy, rough, hand-me-down canvas again sometime and do something else with it. For now, perched on my dresser, it provides refreshing 'visual cacophony' in my bedroom.

Lake Champlain, Day 6

[entry drafted at Lake Champlain 6/13/18]

Huh.

This painting has surprised me more than once as I've worked on it at our little vacation cottage on this little island at the north end of not-so-little Lake Champlain.

Today, still a work in progress but 'finished' for now, it surprises me again when I step back to photograph it: I’ve painted a little self-contained island!

Lake Champlain, Day 5

[entry drafted at Lake Champlain 6/12/18]

We sleep all night with the French doors in the bedroom open to the attached screened porch overlooking Lake Champlain. A Mary-Poppins-like wind blasts the day in with vigor.

I let the fresh-off-the-lake bluster gust through me all day. Love its cleansing, invigorating energy, the intense feeling of charged weather.
