Movement

Pep in My Step

my little black stone of a heart?
the one lodged dark in my chest
a few days back?

a pebble in my shoe,
so to speak,
signifying through pain
the chafing of
thinking brain
against
knowing heart

i shook the pebble out—
minuscule, black, heart-shaped!—
retied my shoe
began walking again
straight and true

Notes about poem and art: “Pep” is a postscript to prayer and opening. The art in progress above is at a turning point. Everything always in movement, shifting, changing.

  1. Glad you moved on with the painting and removed that pebble from you shoe/heart!

Lots going on here. A dialog between yellows, darks, fine line scribbles. Who in the end will take the lead?

    1. oh! terrific question for the artist (yours truly) to ask, i.e. who in the end will take the lead (which was the question with the little black stone of a heart situation as well). onward! movement!

  2. There are such evocative visuals in this poem, Dotty. I read and reread it several (4?, 5?, more) times and found something each time. “the chafing of thinking brain against knowing heart” – my favorite. I can feel that one in my bones. I love the meandering asemia – you knew I would. ðŸ’›

    1. Roseanne! Such a gift to get your feedback here, to have you reflect back that you found such evocative visuals, discovering something each time you reread “Pep in My Step.” I love that “the chafing of thinking brain against knowing heart” resonated for you! And, of course, it pleases me to know my meandering asemia lights you up : )

  3. “the chafing of the thinking brain against knowing heart” oh oh OH! And this beautiful piece in progress which reminds me of lace and peering out from behind curtains made of it. And removing the pebble in one’s shoe. You amaze me. xo

    1. Lola! Thank goodness for those pebbles in the shoe, that chafing of thinking brain against knowing heart—signifiers that attention is required and chakras need realigning. And wowser! Thanks for directing my attention to the chance to peer our from behind those lace curtains!!

      I am humbled to amaze : )

    1. I also am glad you scrolled back, and, speaking of missing posts, I have several comings and goings on the horizon and may be in absentia from visiting/comment at your blog on those days; just wanted you to know in advance, and to know that all is well : )

I’m also glad you know my shoe is pebble free (at least in the moment)!

Always … movement, shifting, and change ❤️

    1. Simone, YAY! As I’ve mentioned previously, your input and feedback and encouragement regarding my writing were key sparks that got me fired up to commit myself to opening up to playing with poetry as I’ve done. THANK YOU!
