Crossing a Bridge

For me, one of the fun parts of crossing the bridge from 2017 to 2018 has been prepping one of my paintings to leave my home so it can take up residence in the home of a collector.

Probably Out of Earshot is excited as it puts its best foot forward to step into a wider world.

Originally painted on paper, it is now mounted on a block of wood painted with a black satin finish. The black paint 'frames' the image on the front of the wood block and provides a backdrop on the other side for a haiku I composed, along with info about the painting.

Very satisfying. 

Abundance

Such abundance.

Such satiety, such a feeling of having all the vertebrae in my spine lined up one above the other with just the right amount of space in between, such fullness of heart.

I have painted up a block of wood and mounted Simplicity on it. 

I've written and inscribed a haiku on the back. 

Altogether, this piece of art has become greater than the sum of its parts and process—and its parts and process have already brought me such abundant great joy.

I stake a claim, scratch

a living from the soil, pause

to take long deep breaths.

Now, off Simplicity goes to a new home, carrying with it gifts of summer weather, my painting time at Takodah, and some delicious post-camp afternoon solitudes in my studio. 

MDF Again

Another painting is spiffed up and ready to strut its stuff, this one a favorite of mine that I painted in December 2015. I covered MDF with a medium gloss, soft, buttery, yellow house paint that picks up on highlights in the painting and speaks to the sunlight in the accompanying haiku.

Mighty Darn Fine, if I do say so myself.
