And that is just exactly fine.
Further, it is just exactly fine that I didn't really connect with watercolor paints—the only paints I brought with me to Monhegan Island.
Here's experiment #1, in which I fiddled around on a postcard-sized bit of canvas paper. I didn't like the results at all until I scratched in some mark-making with a white pen and scribbled a bit with water-soluble crayons.

Give the watercolors time. Beautiful title! Love the scratches! See that drip! Only with watercolors!
Carol, thanks! I had fun with the drips, scratches, and title—glad they caught your attention also. Appreciative of your encouragement!
Disconnecting can be marvelous...whether from social media or from certain stubborn paints! But those scribbles and crayon - they rocked this piece!
Jen, I agree re disconnecting. It sounds like it could have a negative connotation but it plays both sides. The scribbles and crayon sang. Glad you like them!
It's always fun or at least interesting to play with new materials;-)
I can totally relate to your feelings about social media. Lots of ambivalence on my side. That said, I'm always happy to see you and your work come along, and also get inspired by lots of beautiful art that passes by!
I was glad to be limited to my new and unfamiliar supplies for a few days with no alternative. I had no choice but to explore and see what emerged.
I continue to have ambivalence about mixed media and my relationship with it. I'm being more mindful in general about how I live each day.
This makes me happy Dotty. Some green trees, cool water, shadows and sunshine. Happy :)
I fell off the Social wagon, (was it during World watercolor month?) and I have not found my way back. Even though I love seeing the work of friends. But I am ok with it too. For now. I feel the need for some quiet. :) Happy days to you Dotty :)
I love what you see here, Sheila—the trees, water, shadows, sunshine. Happy the piece reads as happy to you!
Helpful to have you talk about your falling off the Social wagon, so to speak. Participation in social media is complex.
Love this piece - the marks, shapes....using a medium other than our choice opens up all sorts of challenges, but can also be freeing and leads to new discoveries. It must have felt good to be travelling a bit lighter with your art materials. As for the social media - I think it is good to disconnect - I stepped away this summer and it was a huge relief. I didn't realize that i was feeling that much pressure to be 'on'! Have a good day!!
Janet, thanks for your thoughtful comments—the watercolors did open up challenges. They didn't feel particularly freeing in my 5-6 day exploration, but I did make some discoveries, I have no regrets, and I did travel lighter than ever before!
Social media—considerable ambivalence; I'm very thought-full currently, making some shifts in how I participate. No doubt refinement and tweaks will be ongoing.
