Random Acts of Art, #1

Shoplifting in Reverse

Amanda invites all to participate and play
in her annual art giveaway:
create four
or more
small quick joyful works of art,
no perfection needed, just start!,
label them as free,
leave them in public where folks will see
barbershop, mini-mart,
library shelf, grocery cart,
you name it,
sky’s the limit—
and walk away grinning,
all parties winning.

Because, as Amanda saysclear as can be, not at all abstruse,
joy looks better on the loose.

I accept!
I get prepped!
I begin!
I grin!

Notes about poem and art:
• “Shoplifting” was partly ghost-composed by Amanda, i.e. I “shoplifted” words from her invitation, decided on line breaks, challenged myself to come up with rhymes, and created a small quick joyful poem.
• For anyone who accepted the invitation to participate, Amanda provided a free video with a demo for making four paintings in the time it might usually take to make one. I shifted into high gear and created eight loosey-goosey floral arrangements in no time, with a zippity-do-dah spirit of joy and play. A Gesture is the first piece I brought to completion. I confess, the bringing to completion is where I slowed down and fussed, though still with joy and playfulness equal to that of the initial rush of creating.

    1. Carol, thanks for your encouraging feedback, and for pointing out what most stuck to your ribs. I painted my eight contributions to Amanda’s invitation was back in early September, then headed off for two weeks away from home, and returned to finalize my prep and get my random acts of art out into the world at the tail end of last month. Grand fun! I love knowing those bits of color and outreach are out in the world doing their own thing : )

I have been putting little art goodies in a couple free little art galleries around the area all summer….and it always makes me happy.
