Notes about poem and art:
• “Fun-Loving” is a tiny playful haiku about a sizable poster that was way fun to order as a 40th-birthday gift for someone whose bathroom makes a terrific gallery for lighthearted and unexpected whimsy.
• An analogous colors exercise from about 10 years ago rose to the occasion of becoming an envelope in which to tuck cash for a summer concert as well as an enclosure card to announce the didn’t-arrive-on-time-for-the-birthday-itself-but-will-get-to-you-soon wishlist art, art that will alternate seasonally with the similarly humorous bird art that was last year’s gift.

    1. LOL at myself for not having noticed the flamingo colors which in my mind were randomly selected from my fodder!!! Thanks for smiling with me in response to this whimsical haiku—it was fun to write : )

  2. Either it was you…or someone else I know that has a fun bathroom flamingo story! Love it. And I love the happy envelope and card enclosure. Summer fun!

    1. Great fun to know someone else has a fun bathroom flamingo story; in our case, it’s daughter-in-law Christine whose bathroom is whimsically wonderful to visit, starting with a “stupid seagulls” poster a year ago, and now a snowbird flamingo poster. The posters will each get time in the spotlight for six months annually : )

  3. Snowbird flamingo! That could be used in a conceit!

Lucky person to get that flaming envelope!

    1. A conceit! Good call, Carol—I hadn’t even thought in those terms! A+ to you for retaining and applying info from your poetry course.

And look at you using poetic language to celebrate my small gift envelope—I love the wordplay of flaming and flamingo’s dancing together : )

  4. You are up early! Good for you! I tried to post the original poem again. Didn’t take it. Edited again taking out these words: boom, WhatsApp, safe room, and put downed in place of shut down. Was accepted! Crazy! Tried to contact a human but its bot bot bot!

      1. I’m an early riser routinely but woke even earlier than usual today so got up and got moving!
      2. Wow. Until you started telling me about having difficulty posting your poem at Coursera, I’d never even considered that there was any kind of bot censoring or otherwise. I wonder how you might be able to get through to a person—perhaps through the instructor?
