Exams

Once I (a) recognized and (b) set aside the unconscious mindset that I was taking an exam upon which my life depended and for which I hadn't prepared, and (c) saw this work in progress as the basic color-mixing and composition study that it is, I (d) relaxed more receptively into the process.

However, calling this a study puts a whole new spin on the word.

I sure never studied this hard when I was in school.

Just sayin'.

Could stop here and might be wise to do so.

We are all in the process study and more study. No exams just small tests and big successes! Sometimes we see these a few days away. Looking good 👍!

taking an exam upon which our life depends! That is how we feel in art! You captured the feeling so perfectly. "STUDY" (even if hard) takes away so much angst! I am in awe of your wisdom. I will study today!

Have missed commenting on several posts!! But just love what you have done with core values. For the record I did 'study' today...first time in a long time - never enjoyed academia for the most part - but with art - at times angst driven- does offer rewards seldom found in other pursuits (at least for me!). I wasn't sure where you were going with this square - but it is so beautiful - just love the perspective and those beautiful rich blooms, and all those layers of texture (I could go on!!) - I hope you felt a wonderful sense of 'aha' when you stepped back to have look!

Always studying and learning, that's for sure. And, for me, studying and learning became so wonderful once I left school! Thank you, Carol.

Really, I just have to laugh when I get into taking-an-exam-upon-which-my-life-depends mode with my art. But I DO get into that mode! The phrase 'study for a test' has a negative conotation for me, probably from years of doing so ass-backwards. However, to think of a study as 'a detailed investigation and analysis of a subject or situation'—yes! I'm all about that in my art!

Janet, thanks for your thoughtful comments here, which I didn't read till after I'd responded to Carol and Jen above where you'll see that I didn't particularly enjoy academia either. I did 'well' as measured by grades but for the most part I didn't flourish in that setting. Looking back, I can see how different it could have been, but that was then and this is now, and look at me getting my hands dirty (literally) every day learning and studying and learning and studying, all through art. Yay!

I wasn't sure where this square would take me either but I am so delighted to have the aha of where it is now!
