Slapstick 12/13/17

Good grief, it's only 315p as I pop outdoors to catch a photo in natural daylight, and I have to ask, daylight? what daylight?

With my geometric series completed, I choose a fresh palette and start brand new today. I paint from a measure of raw uncomfortable inner dissonance that I carried into the studio with me. The dissonance doesn't sit well in my body, but it does open me to impulse and freeform painting—welcome gateways to both feeling the disequilibrium rather than running away and to expressing it.

Plus, I get a start on paper.

What a great new start!! Gorgeous line work and the new palette seems to reflect the time of year. If you put your previous geometric series next to this I don't know if people would believe it is the same artist.

Love the new palette! From the earth colors of fall to the blue an whites of winter snow. I love impulsive. Like where it is although I know things change in Dotty's studio.

Hi Dotty,

I love these organic and free moving marks!
Here in the Netherlands it is dark too. Snow, rain, ice on the streets. We changed our morning run to a mid-day walk, Cheers!

Once again, thank you for your feedback, Janet. One place I often feel discomfort is that my art seems to be 'all over the place.' When I catch myself saying that with a judgemental tone, I take a deep breath and recalibrate to tap into curiosity. (Rinse and repeat!)

Guess I did change seasons, a little ahead of the calendar, though not ahead of my surroundings.

Yup, change a-comin'! Always in motion!

Jen, thank you! Can't tell you how much delight it brings me to know how much you look forward to peeking into my artistic life each day. Sweet!

Simone, thanks for cheering me on with my organic, free moving marks.

Happy news, at least in my corner of the astrological world: Yesterday marked the earliest sunset of 2017. Starting today it will set later every day. Hooray! And, even though sunrise will continue to be later each morning until late December when it will hold at the same time until January 9th, daylength will begin increasing as of the solstice in 8 days.

Love the colors, and the freeform organic shapes. Ugghhh, I know. These short days are not my favorite. And the shift in where the sun is, makes my room that much darker. And much too early in the day! Have fun my friend ;)

Thanks, Sheila. I was glad to throw some color and paint on the page, and to drum up the push it takes to then brayer over some of it. The darkness will shift soon—can't wait!
