I haven't strayed at all from the quick, capricious, unpredictable, only-have-few-minutes-to-paint modus operandi that has characterized the unfolding of this current work in progress from day #1 back in late September.
And, in keeping with that modus operandi, looky what took place in my studio today as I followed an impulse and made a split-second decision …
work in progress 8 4x5" and 2 2x8" pieces of unstretched canvas working title: quick & quixotic cut-ups
Carol, I laughed yesterday when I read your comment to my previous post which said: "I guess if this was paper it would already have been cut!" I'd already cut it before reading your remark!! Now, to see where I take these little pups.
yup—oh my! My hope is to work on each one individually as the spirit moves me, and make 8 postcards and 2 bookmarks. Don't know yet how successfully I'll be able to mount cut canvas on sturdy manilla card stock, but I'll soon find out!
This is a really cool piece, Dotty. I immediately saw a landscape, but when I paused for a few second, and gave a long stare, it changed for me.
For some reason, my eye wants to keep the pieces mostly separated, but together, as if it's a story. I see some aerial views of what appears to be fabulous swirling ocean water, and the view of land from your porthole far out at sea. :) Looks to me like you're on a fabulous vacation, and I'm perhaps a bit jealous that you didn't take me along. ;) haha!!
Katie, thanks for sharing all these impressions. I plan to take each piece further and now, after hearing your reflections, (1) I have new thoughts floating in mind to carry into my painting and (2) I plan to keep playing with arrangements of the pieces, something that hadn't occurred to me before! Awesome—thanks!
