Last summer, friend Ann texted me a photo from her vacation cottage with the words One morning in Maine, alluding to Robert McCloskey's children's book of that name. I painted the scene and gave it the same title.

Hi Dotty! I love the skies.... they are beautiful !!! By the way, I took some photos of my studio and posted it in my blog. Please have some time to visit my blog and read it. Thank you.
Hi Jiyoung! Thanks for your enjoyment of the skies in my painting. I've just visited your blog and left a comment. The photos and description of your studio are wonderful! I very much appreciate your taking the time to share so specifically and so generously. A further gift is that I've gained an increased sense of being in community with you as we paint : )
Dotty these are both wonderful. The first, peaceful and relaxing, and the second is so dynamic. I love those large clouds, beautiful!
Sheila, thanks for your feedback—I enjoyed your attention to the energy of the paintings. It's funny to see the clouds in "In the Wake" now a few days after I painted them. I was so dissatisfied at the time, with my reference photo at hand as contrast, but now I've long since forgotten the reference photo and can better appreciate my painting as a stand-alone.
