Last summer, friend Ann texted me a photo from her vacation cottage with the words One morning in Maine, alluding to Robert McCloskey's children's book of that name. I painted the scene and gave it the same title.

Dotty these are both wonderful. The first, peaceful and relaxing, and the second is so dynamic. I love those large clouds, beautiful!
Sheila, thanks for your feedback—I enjoyed your attention to the energy of the paintings. It's funny to see the clouds in "In the Wake" now a few days after I painted them. I was so dissatisfied at the time, with my reference photo at hand as contrast, but now I've long since forgotten the reference photo and can better appreciate my painting as a stand-alone.
