Auld Lang Syne

=====
Notes about poem and art:
For years now, maybe as many as ten?, I’ve created a wall calendar that showcases my art. This year, the January page is unusual in two regards. First, I included a poem I wrote. Second, the featured art depicts a painting start that has long since gone under additional layers of paint; in other words, the art no long exists as a painting; it exists only as a photograph.

carol leeFirst a very Happy,Healthy and of course Creative New Year! What a great way to showcase your work, especially when the pieces have gone along with new versions. All art is transient as well as most in our lives.
During my last session with Sara not only working with previous works, but tearing up recent new exercises done in class and making new work. Surprising!
And to you, too, Carol: a very happy, healthy, and of course creative new year! Thanks for your comments today and over the many years; you are a player in my creativity!
Love hearing about your working with previous pieces and tearing up recent new exercises done in class and making new work—isn’t that grand fun? I’ll be posting something in that vein a bit later this month. The surprises! Worth their weight in gold!
Joyful PutteringI absolutely love that you create a calendar every year of your art. And this January page is just fabulous. I will embrace the world as it is right now. Yes, yes, yes! Happy New Year Dotty! Anything is possible!
MaryAnn, love your enthusiasm for my creating a yearly calendar of my art—thank you!
Also, I’m very taken with your précis-plus-embellishment of my poem; it’s become a modified haiku, with syllabic lines of 7, 5, 7 instead of 5, 7, 5 : )

Wow wow WOW! What an affirmation that calendar is! Reminders of your work both visual and written, hints and peeks at what has gone before, what is not longer there (oh my!) and what is possible going forward. Beautiful! xoxoxo
Lola! Thank you! I love making that calendar each year for myself and a few others. Well, actually, I don’t always LOVE all aspects of the making. It’s a significant undertaking. But I never regret having made the effort! That calendar hangs in my study and I notice it consciously almost every day : )
I confess it was great fun this year to dedicate a page to a painting start that no long exists except as a photo!
Yes, Yes, Yes! I love this Dotty. What a spectacular beginning!
I love the wintery art, and knowing that it has morphed into a new creation. I love knowing that 2026 will be filled with Dotty art, and Dotty poems. :o)
Yes, Yes, Yes to every day the start of a new year, to wintery art, and to your arms open to my art and poems! Yes, Yes, Yes to all the years we have celebrated each other’s creative adventures! Happy 2026!

Simone, so glad you went back to note this calendar page post! I was excited this year to showcase a poem with one of my paintings—especially a painting in progress, not even a “completed” painting! I love the way the poem fit into the visual composition on the canvas.
