Receptivity to Wonder

More resonant thoughts from Lyanda Lynn Haupt's Mozart's Starling:

Receptivity to wonder is not economically productive, marketable, quantifiable. The rewards, also, stand beyond such calculation. But it is in such receptivity that we discover what draws us, and along with it our originality, our creativity, our soulfulness, our gladness, our art. Mozart found inspiration in the presence of a common bird. For us, too, the song of the world so often rises in places we had not thought to look.

I wandered way into wonder, gladness, and complete absorption while adding finishing touches to this patch, embedding little secrets en route.

Thanks for your beautiful words. Receptivity to wonder, isn't that the most important thing in life (or one of...) - and so easy to get lost!

My first thought was that this is stunningly beautiful. Then I saw that Carol also used the word stunning. It most definitely IS!

Thank you, Janet! The final additions were SO much fun. I painted almost entirely with collage to finish this off, using print collage for my neutrals, to develop negative space, and to heighten the range of values and saturation; and using acrylic skin collage (black lines) for added contrast. I love the 'secret' of all the little words, too.

Thanks, Carol! The orange was oil pastel. Yum.

Receptivity to wonder—always available. Always. Even when not accessed. Here's to a day of wonder for all of us : )

The song of the world—those words are music in themselves. Have fun with Mozart's Starling. We had the most wonderful parakeet for about 10 years (Kapiti!), so the book touched me on so many levels. Thanks for YOUR words, Jen.
