Pondering on #1...find it difficult! Guess I am not really free. Remind me of the total size and patch size. The new patch has a marble like texture which is very pleasing to the eye.

"Core Values" is 30 x 48 in. (roughly 82 x 122 cm). Each patch is roughly 15 x15 cm.

Thanks for your feedback re the marble-like texture—several layers of paint and collage there.

I absolutely LOVE the picture above (about the 'no remembering your name' etcetera. I can understand you, Carol, also very much ;-). But it's good to realize that I am only a tiny -but beautiful and worthwhile- whirl in the stream of life. We don't need to be remembered. Our art does not have to be special or unique or ever-lasting (sorry, I take the topic a little bit further...)

In the meantime: I love your patches!

There is a freedom in giving up any thought of a legacy in the world. Allows us to just LIVE. This patch = masterful textures in muted colors. Brilliant!

Simone, yes: we are life while we're alive; we need 'do' nothing more than be. What a relief!

Glad you're enjoying my patches : )

With any good fortune I'll be able to live what I know in my deepest self, and not get distracted by my mind that tells other stories and convinces me of all sorts of nonsense! Just LIVE!

Thanks for your feedback re 'masterful textures in muted colors,' Jen.

I’ve gotta say, I find it sobering, not freeing, that there will come a day when no one remembers me... That said, I’m glad you find freedom in living in the moment with your art.

Love this new patch. Texture yeah! Love how it looks like aged plaster.

There will come a day..... when you finish the last patch. LOL :) And then what fun will begin? I will be right here to see :)

Glad you like the aged plaster—aged in part with the trusty texture sheets you sent me ages ago : )

LOL at your prefacing your second comment with "There will come a day … "!!! When that day comes, the one on which I complete my last patch, I make take a breather before going on to the next phase of this project. I'm thinking I may actually hang Core Values in my home for awhile.

Dotty - you have stirred the pot with #1. I understand it but I hope I will leave a legacy if only a small one for my children and perhaps grandchildren - not monetary (I am a 'starving' artist after all- hahaha) but more of a 'living life' one. This too will fade with time I know. I am glad for your honesty - what a dull world it would be if we all thought and did the same. As for today's 'patch' - I like the white edge that was left behind when the paper was torn and all the bits of texture you added - gives some relief to the paper. It looks great against the slightly darker greens. In the larger photo of the 'core values' I like the text next to the 'monkey wrench' composition - the word 'Lifelong' seems pretty appropriate given the conversation started with today's post - I might be tempted to leave it! Take care ox

And I forgot to mention I like the image that accompanies the quote - simple but oh so strong - thanks again for sharing!

Janet, I guess I did stir the pot! When that there-will-come-a-day quotation came my way, my first reaction was a simultaneous huge sigh of relief and an out-loud exclamation of "thank God!!!" I'm all about legacy (exhibit A: my art; exhibit B: my blog; and the list could go on indefinitely), but it is SO helpful to me to have some perspective. I get very tangled up in the many strands of the notion that what I think and do is who I am, and I felt so light and spacious when I read those lines I posted.

However, so as not to create a huge tangle of words, I think I'll stop trying to write about this!

Thanks for your feedback about the white edges left behind by tearing, and all the bits of texture. I appreciate your thought about leaving the 'lifelong' patch as is. I'm at a point now where I'm thinking a bit about 'composition' with piece, at least for the short term, and I do plan to leave some patches no further developed than they are currently.
