Popping Out Postcards

A painting exercise I did two years ago using cruciform composition caught my eye today. A cut-up holiday card sat on the same dresser-top. One thing led to another.

My favorite composition form. Very playful especially with that bit of malarkey in the bottom right corner! Happy Valentines! Sending lots of SUN!

Thanks for the Valentine's Day greetings and sunshine, Carol!

I might play around a bit more with cruciform composition; thanks for the feedback re playfulness here.

I love this composition, too, Dotty! I need to revisit it. I love the colors here! I see pinks and oranges, too:))
And "I Thought We Said the end of the Month", is so cool! I immediately thought to myself, "wow, this would be beautiful on as a quilt!" I imagine lots of squares of this together. Beautiful!

Laurie, thanks for all your feedback. Fun to have you pick up on the oranges—they were asking to play a supporting role. Love the idea of a quilt. I've got several in this pink/black collage series now; maybe they'd all like to be pieced together. You've got my imagination fired up now!

The TITLE!!!!!! You are a genius. Love the line work, the colors, the playfulness...

Thanks, Jen!! I've still got more of the pink collage paper I painted so this series may not yet be complete. Stay tuned! The linework, by the by, is white fabric paint and black embedded in an acrylic skin.

Hey, that's interesting, this cruciform! I tend not to think about composition this way, but it can be a really good entrance point, I think! I love the black wrinkly figure!

Yay! Glad I can offer up the cruciform composition reminder in exchange for your inspiring me to make these collage postcards ; )

Love the line work - intrigued by the upped right - I see a (pink) arch with 'time' flowing under it? This is wonderful and the title is the icing on the cake.

Janet, fun to have you notice the arch. That was a scrap of collage paper from some other project, and I liked the sharp cut line of it, its geometric arc, in contrast to the organic/torn nature of the rest of this piece. I actually worked on this piece in a landscape orientation and only later turned it this way where, indeed, time seems to be flowing under the arch!
