Shaping Up

I went to my studio with a sense that free canvas #1 might be in the market for some left brain refinement.

And my left brain did get a little studio time today.

But not as much as expected.

Something in me was still hankering to go bold, go experimental, go exploratory.

I'm all shaped up for tomorrow's adventures.

Thanks for the encouragement, Katie. I'm stumped for the moment.

I SO admire your courage and determination. Now take a breath and let the right side take over!

Big, bold cheery O's :) You know exactly what you are doing Dotty. This is just meant to be a little teaser for us. I know ;)

Carol, thanks for your support. I'm not hearing anything currently from either the right or left side of my brain, so I am sitting in restful alertness (alert restfulness?) …

Sheila, I probably DO know exactly what I am doing, and I so appreciate your offering that affirmation. I just can't quite hear what my inner self might be telling me to do next, and so I will pop my ears a few times, chew some gum, and see if I can pick up a few sound waves!

Restful, alert, gum chewing, ear popping.....not descriptions you usually read on a artists bio!! Make a mark and respond....that is some of the best painting advise I have been given...oh and don't think ahead too far! Keep doing what you are doing Dotty be it from the left or the right side. This painting is going places...when you are ready. Have a great day.

Well, aren't I just so blessed to get such embracing support—thank you, Janet. I value each element your recapping of "some of the best painting advice" you've been given, along with your encouragement to keep going, from any/all directions. No need to know in advance. Awesome!

Oh! Oh! Yep, that was perfect. How many ways can I say "love" about your art? These bold black marks are groovy!

Jen, didn't know if I'd be hearing from you while your'e away, but evidently, yes: awesome! Thank you for the welcome booster shot, groovy mentor of mine : )

Ahhhhhh... a visit to Dotty's place and I smile! I love all these colors, shapes, and meanderings with your recent work. And I especially love your "list" of things to be grateful for. Sometimes I feel like my list is endless. And I know yours is too. I had to take a break from 30 in 30, and it's ok! Hectic time in so many ways, but trying to sit quietly here and there and just breathe. The biggest thing to be grateful for-breathing! If you can check out A River Runs Through it, it's a wonderful movie- sort of the same genre (in my mind) as The Legends of the Fall- which I LOVE!

Hey, Laurie, glad to know you are breathing and glad to have you visit! Thanks for your feedback, thanks for a little update from your end, thanks for the movie recs!

thank you, Simone. They felt absolutely right the minute they appeared. I have been at a standstill ever since, not sure if this piece is complete or needing something else.
