Rolling In

I selected one of the quadrants from my leaf pile of a few days ago and felt an autumn sky roll in over mountains when I mixed up some gesso with a hint of phthalo blue and used a sponge roller to play with negative shape painting.

Oh Love!!! Glorious textured sky, brilliant clouds. And those cactus spotted, dotted, dusty hills. Gotta love the earth in all it's hues. :)

I painted purely from within, i.e. without a photo or other concrete external reference, but now I wonder if I channeled a little bit of Mingus from the photos you post at your blog : )

Fall!!! I am ready. Oh, wait, it doesn't come to south florida...wah! Thank goodness for your yummy textured piece. This is a breath of cool, autumn air complete with leaves. :)

Jen, how often do you get a more northerly autumn fix??? Glad to help in the interim : )

Thanks for your comments! Always enjoy hearing from you.

That would be an honor Dotty. :) I have never mentioned it, but you are welcome... anyone, to paint the hills from my photos, and if you would ever want a larger one for reference... you know where to find me.
But you have a gift for mountains, as you do with everything you paint. The warmth, and squiggly, scratchy action, the many colors, the bold definitive black, all so engaging :)

Sheila, thanks for your sweet commentary and generosity above! I appreciate your feedback re warmth, squiggly/scratchy action, colors, and bold definitive black. I am always so grateful to have your mentoring.
