Leaf Pile!

I have early, early memories of jumping in leaf piles raked up by Daddy in our back yard on Waverly Place in Cranford, NJ.

Crackles. Whispers. Earthy smells. Scratchinesses under my shirt down my back. Laughter. Squeals. Fresh air. Blue sky. Hard ground. Sisters' knees and elbows. Running. Jumping. Dry papery bits stuck to my lips, in my mouth. Browns. Reds. Translucent bright yellows.

Just love your description of fall leaves. I remember my childhood going to school kicking up the colorful leaves! The crackle and smell. Autumn my favorite season. Memories!

Carol, thanks for your comments. Glad my writing evoked fall memories. The crackle and smell of kicking up fall leaves while walking to and from school is also a strong cherished memory of mine. Walking to and from school is a fun memory in itself—we did it twice a day since we walked home for lunch midday, too!

Fall! I miss leaves here in Florida...even raking them. Love your description. Poetic and perfect!

Autumn in FL must be a whole different kettle of fish, Jen! Thanks for your double-p nod to my description : )

Love the next layer and the description. We would make forts out of leaves.....to leave the boys out!

Thanks, Laurie. It was fun to work with these earthy colors again after not doing so for ages—clearly they tapped into something elemental : )

This is so wonderful, and your description as well :) At first look, I saw a wonderful old quilt. On the bed, and there is a sleeper underneath. The squares have changed shape, due to the wrinkles and ripples. I keep going back to look again....

Sheila, it's a wonderful dry chilly early morning here (forecast to turn into a wonderful dry sunny summer day in the 80's) where snuggling under that quilt would be JUST the perfect thing to do. Love the image you evoke with your words. Thanks!
