Halting, Stammering, Tripping

I am

halting,

stammering,

tripping over my own paintbrush,

dysfluent,

stuttering,

herky-jerky,

stopping and starting,

faltering,

lacking direction,

painting anyway

and

any way.

My first observation is that little monkey type face grinning at me. Then all those different black mythological creatures. The newsprint seems to fade from focal points to the calm areas. Love the dots and scratches in the black. Go on girl!!!

That monkey face popped out at me at some point too and from then on I couldn't not see it! Thanks for your observations and heartening : )

There is nothing herky-jerky about your work, Dotty! Love the vertical. And the weighty black toward the bottom, drawing me down to look more closely. :)

Hi, Jen. This painting life is fascinating, isn't it? The way one (i.e. I!) can feel all herky-jerky and in no kind of flow internally yet find some visually lovely soft streams and breeze-swirling ribbons showing up on canvas? Thanks for your observations and feedback—you are my virtual latté break this morning : )

My eye went right to that smiley face- and this "herky jerky" movement brings a smile- and especially your description.....reminds me of a typical day in my brain. Although I must admit that I've tripped over lots of things, but never my paintbrush-yet! :)))

Clearly the visible monkey face is the outward manifestation of my invisible monkey mind! It was hard to find words to describe the opposite-of-flow experience I've been navigating the past few days as I paint, but I think I came close : )

So delightful to have you back blogging and stopping by! Enjoy your day, whatever it might bring.

Not herky or jerky. Dancing came to mind. Not a waltz, not scripted. The kind of dancing that sets you free and feels GOOD! Love that a funny face welcomes me to your world. Makes me want to look slowly, so as not to miss a thing. Love the "bright lights", the scattered jewels, the hint of softness from the typography. Pure fun :)

I'm getting a kick out of the irony related to this painting. The process is what has felt herky jerky, and the kind of dancing that sets you free and feels GOOD is PRECISELY what has been missing as I paint … and yet the painting itself has flow and freedom in it. Go figure!

Your observations are such fun—the bright lights, scattered jewels, and typography softnesses. Thank you!

I see a smiley face near the left upper corner!! I'm wondering if that's Herky or Jerky? :D

Herky. I don't know where Jerky went. Truth to tell, can't trust either one of them.
