Wherever You Go

I keep thinking I have soooo much to do, too much to do.

I pause first thing this afternoon to wonder why I tell myself that story.

My new story—I'm going to start a painting.

Materials: cheap drawing paper from Jane Davies class; torn paper collage from my college alumni mag and the packing paper that came in my birthday gift from the Peerys; PaperMate pencil; new Faber-Castell paint brush pen from the Peerys, Utrecht matte medium.

Wherever you go, there you are.

There you go! Off on a new adventure!! See Dotty activate. See Dotty paint and scrape and paint again. See Dotty ponder. See Dotty create a masterpiece!

You have me chuckling, Sheila! Love the stylistic see-Dotty sequence! It feels direct, energizing, and forward moving. Onward!

This is just the perfect example of how easy you can start making art. Just empty the paper bin, scribble, glue, paint. Nothing more. But something that has been hidden inside has had the possibility to fly its wings!

So good to remember: it is a story we tell ourselves (at least: I do tell the same story to myself these days). All my 'important problems' (to quote Eckhart Tolle).

I feel inspired to let that story laugh a bit about itself, and to go through the day with another story in mind!

'see' you soon!

Simone, you totally GET it! There is such YES, such expansion when I paint, such a counterbalance to the contraction I might be feeling (self-created in most cases). Laughter is wonderful! So many funny stories we tell ourselves!

Just read your post about the stories we tell ourselves. My head was bobbing in agreement the whole time!

Yep, activation. Good for the soul.

Thanks for your comments, Carol. One of the gifts of having a blog and having made friends across the globe with you and others is that my efforts and actions reflect back to me and help me take heart when I might be feeling some trepidation in the face of a new project. THANK YOU!
