Change of Direction

Changed direction today. Grabbed a piece of manila stock that I'd gessoed months ago, sprayed some water on it, pulled out some fluid acrylics that I've barely ever used, and dropped some color onto my 'canvas.' With sunshine and mild temps beckoning, I took the show outdoors to my front steps, loaded up with three or four different kinds of pastels, some pencils, a couple of pens. Back indoors to drip some house paint and use a texture sheet.

Could have stopped way back at simpler, but evidently I didn't.

Even so, this was just a quick spontaneous exploration, and now I have a postcard to send to my dad.

Your house must be so pretty and colorful if this is your house paint. Your dad will be so thrilled to get your card. :)

The house paint is actually a 50¢ Home Depot 'oops!' sample that I've been playing with; the yellow that shows as 3Dish drips across the horizon of this postcard. I make and send a postcard to my dad about every five days, and he does appreciate them : ) Thanks for your comments.

What a beautiful exploration. Love all the oranges and yellows an touch of red/red-orange? What a happy postcard, sunny and cheerful! What in the world are 3Dish drips?

Gotta run to Home Depot!!! This is a jaw dropper! No , I'm serious! ( Can you see me sitting here with my serious face.... and my lavender striped pj's. ?) LOVE the texture overlapping and changing directions. Had to think on it, but finally I realized that somehow it made me think of cross-cut french fries. Think I might have been hungry. LOL. You know I love the colors, and the bits of black are perfect. I thought you maybe used fabric paint. You will use anything won't cha! Blissful this!

Thanks, Carol. This was a fun exploration. I think the red/red-orange is red iron oxide, brown iron oxide, and yellow together.

oops: 3Dish would better have been written as 3D-ish or 3 dimensional-ish! I'm laughing now in hindsight, seeing that it might be read as 3-Dish!

Thanks for all the feedback, Sheila. The Home Depot samples were gifts from my 7- and 10-year-old granddaughters who chose by color only, paying no attention to matte or semi-gloss, etc. I LOVE the yellow they gave me. It's an "interior/exterior semi-gloss enamel stain-blocking paint and primer"—works for me! I love its color, its thickness, and its ability to provide contrast with its sheen. Your cross-cut french fries image is perfect! Making me laugh! And, as you may have surmised, they came from one of your texture sheets : )

This is nice!
Is this quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold? It's beautiful colour. Wonderful to see your experiments!

Thanks, Simone. I don't think I used my Golden fluid quin gold; I think it was all Golden high flow transparent red iron oxide and brown iron oxide, and oil pastels of similar colors. I have no idea what the difference is between 'fluid' and 'high flow'! But I agree: beautiful color!

House paint! Texture! Rich, golden warmth! Love. You are a true creative spirit, unlimited by conventional tools and paints. An art explorer! I am heading to my garage to see what art supplies I can pilfer from the paint and tool cabinet...

Thanks, Jen. Fun to have your sweet affirmations of this creative adventure I've chosen. Toss me a piece of reclaimed wood from the garage, would ya?

Hmm, in all seriousness, what kind of wood do you paint on?

What a fun and creative gift, no wonder the paint is such a joy for you :) I love how you are using the sheets Dotty. And seeing the difference in paint is always interesting, your thick lines or blobs mixed in. Joy in seeing :)
