Instead Of

I've been wanting to play with white ink on one of the starts from my cut up trickster-art for awhile now. Inspired by the work of Eva Magill Oliver, and instead of doing laundry and unpacking my suitcase …

Thanks, Eva!

Here's a montage of several of my bookmarks to date:

Playing is much more fun than chores!!! I love my white gel pen thanks for reminding me to use it. I love foliage shapes as well especially the snake plant.

LOOVVVEE! Love leaves, love the jewel tones, love the feminine curves. This reminds me of those fabulous dresses from the classic movies. And seeing all of them together brought the song "We are Family" to my mind.
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing!

Dating myself but I don't care :)

Playing generally does tend to be a bit more fun than doing chores! I played with a gel pen, paint marker, and fabric in with this piece—all fun and each offering something different. Foliage shapes are fun, too. Eva's work is beautiful : )

Thanks for your exuberant enthusiasm, Sheila! I love that you thought of fabulous dresses from classic movies, and then jumped to Sly and the Family Stone. As for dating yourself, you are just a spring chick relative to me : )

Hi Dotty. Looks beautiful, this white ink. Where do you get it? What is it called? Is it the 'gel pen?'It looks 'thick', like there is a lot of substance in it.
I love the four 'glued' together! Make a beautiful composition together!

Thanks, Simone. I may play with white ink again. I used three different pens on this piece: Uni-Ball Signo gel pen for the thinnest lines; Uni Posca paint pen for flat thicker lines; Scribbles brand 3D fabric paint (squeeze bottle) for the dimensional lines. Fun!

The four bookmarks side-by-side are definitely fun, and I liked fiddling with different combinations to get a good composition for the photo. Each bookmark is now living a separate life.

Thanks for the technical details! The 3D gel pen looks fun!
I especially like the effect of white on darker colours. I indeed used white crayon a lot, and now the white paint marker. Your pens give me new ideas! Have a nice weekend!

I have to laugh that it took a 'push' to make such a striking contrast, even though I wanted contrast. I'm glad I did, though, because playing with white took me in several new directions. Happy weekend to you too!
