Passing By

Black ink that I added yesterday feels out of balance—too forward, too much—so today I thread parts of it with tangled strands of gold and white ink to contrast with thicker straighter black marks in the composition.

I quiet the 'sky,' using a foam roller.

I repaint the two central shapes with a palette knife to thicken the paint, to make the color more vibrant. I use a mesh stencil for texture, add accents with oil pastel.

I've completed this iteration of Just Kidding and given it a title for however long it lives.

Very strong! Love all the variations of color in all the sections. Bottom quarter still my fav, with the drops of pink. Wonderful scratch effects. Mesh texture great idea!!!

Thanks, Carol. I appreciate your feedback. Your previous comments make that bottom right corner seem like a tide pool with beach grass. Fun to have you note the drops of pink, scratch effects, and mesh texture.

Hi Dotty,

It is so nice how you are working on this piece! Love to see how much you are enjoying this intuitive process. And great to see the foamroller pass by ;-)

Thanks, Simone. This piece has called predominantly on intuition : ) I had fun with the foam roller. My color wasn't smoothly mixed, and the foam roller then rolled out varied colors but with even coverage. I like how how the coverage allowed underlying textural elements to become more pronounce whereas previously texture was fighting with ragged coverage; it all felt too busy, especially since there is plenty of busy elsewhere.

WOW! Love all the white scratches and scribbles. Love the warm central section, and that front corner still calls to me. So fun this progression :)

Sheila, thanks for your comments. The white scratches and scribbles make me think of thread, and strands of hair, and dog hair, all snagged by brambly brush in a natural setting of some sort. Love that the front corner still calls to you : )
