Laughing Her Head Off

Just Kidding is neither introspective nor deliberate. Neither cautious nor self-aware. Not a worrier. Not a planner.

She is totally in the moment, that minx.

While I stepped out to snap a photo of a snowfall late last week,

February in full color

JK took herself on a romp in my studio, laughing her head off the whole time. She got into crumpled-paper collage, matte medium, paints, catalyst blades, paint markers, palette knives, and ink markers before she ran out of steam.

Did she clean up after herself?

Hahahahahahaha!

First thanks for the winter wonderland photo! I had really forgotten how beautiful the snow can be. I saved it in my Photography board on Pinterest. So many patterns and textures! WOW what a transformation, a new and totally different concept. Always surprises!!!! I love the moment of calm and peace in the veiled version, just before the blacks and whites decided to join. What will tomorrow bring. Just got in from my weekly babysitting and a bit tired, but your art keep inspiring me to get on with it.

We have a different "white" on our Almond trees this time of year. Taken 4 years ago!!!https://www.flickr.com/photos/12548608@N00/8475544526/in/dateposted-public/

We've had very little snow this year, and this last storm was the most strikingly pretty. I laughed, though, when I looked at the 'full color' photo afterwards—pure b&w!

Yup, patterns and textures kicking off transformation yet again. For the veiling, I mixed two colors I thought I might use later to create a brown to mix with white.

How long is your weekly day of babysitting, and how many/what age kids?

Love the white of your almond trees : )

My daughter lives outside Jerusalem limits in a Moshav Aminadav. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aminadav_(non-profit_organization) I go once a week on Wed- and return Thursday morning, about 2 hours by bus - train - bus, 40 minutes [no traffic] by car. Kids are 7 and 11. Both my daughter and husband are self employed. Yael has a Yoga Studio, Shabtai works in filming. Do you use the app Whatsapp? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&hl=en

Fun to learn about your daughter and son-in-law, and your weekly gig with the kids; no small undertaking to go once a week and stay overnight. No, I don't use WhatsApp.

This is so great! No fear in your studio - At first I couldn't believe that you painted out the whole image and have now added black and white to the neutral surface...but then I thought - this is Dotty and there will be more stops along the way on this creative journey. Where are you and the 'minx' going next......

Do not be deceived: there's always fear!

Clearly, I have no idea where the minx and I are headed, and I'm not sure if that's the way I want to be approaching my studio time or not. I'm feeling a bit reflective of late, hoping to sort out internal clutter—perhaps I'll follow the lead of you and Sheila, and tackle physical clutter as my starting place.

I sometimes find just 'being' in my studio - not necessarily painting or cleaning is a good feeling as well. I think we all need different levels of chaos and order in our creative lives (and life in general). These are the things that push us through the down times and can provide opportunities to grow. I am going to think more about your comment that 'there's always fear'...that will be a whole other conversation! 'February in full colour' is a beautiful photo...that blanket of white. Take care Dotty

Aww..the snow is beautiful. Thanks so much for posting the photo. I'm missing snow this year because we've been having warm weather..it was 80F yesterday. I'm still holding out hope that it will snow here before winter is over. It is suppose to get colder after today, so crossing fingers it will at least rain or something.

JK is gonna be in sooo much trouble if she doesn't start cleaning up after herself, I take it? heehee Love what you've been up to, especially the reds..really makes your abstracts pop, and makes the eyes take notice.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Janet. Just being in my studio sounds restful, and, having taken a deep breath just writing the word restful, I think I want to handle a bunch of my paintings and supplies, probably tidying as I go. I think that studio time might move me along in reflecting on what I want to be doing with my art.

Further, dive in any time with the there's-always-fear conversation. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

That snow, which fell just a week ago, is, astonishingly, nearly gone again.

JK won't get into any serious trouble. She knows that I secretly like having the pot stirred.

Thank you for your comment about the reds. You sparked some ideas in what I did today with this painting (which has traveled beyond what I've thus posted). So happy to have you be my muse!

Oh what a journey! How can I miss those wonderful scratches and blues and purples when black and white are coming to play! Thanks for showing so many of the stepping stones Dotty! Love the photo :) Have fun today :)

Thanks for your affirmations, Sheila, and thanks for letting me know you appreciate seeing so many of the stepping stones—sometimes I deliberate as to whether that just makes clutter and/or takes away the stand-alone punch of a piece.
