Jan 2017 30in30, Day 7

First time I ever saw Mr. Rogers, when my kids were little, I thought, huh?

Then I started paying attention.

Bumped into these clips from episode 1481 over at Austin Kleon's blog yesterday.

Totally.

And not only would each person's be different, but also each day's art can be different even from one same person!

This really grabs me Dotty. Your use of all the mediums, layers, marks and even the title, hit home! Another great piece.

Oh Dotty! How you do surprise! Interesting that you found Mr. Rogers for this post. Your piece is fun and lively and eye catching. It is childlike... in it's appeal. Brings to mind Dr. Seuss and his addictive books.
I see faces, bottom left - the "moon" becomes his head. Sort of like gazoo, the flinstones martian. Also on top left, an animal of some sort. The red on the right is a cat nose, and there is even a bit of whisker. And left of that an elephant trunk, a bit of smiling red lip. Above that the collage piece becomes a nose, and there are two beady eyes. And what is most joyful about these is that they are unintentional.
This makes me want to open my crayon box and doodle!
c/o Dr. Seuss
Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

Thanks, Gillian. I've used some of 'your' colors here, no wonder this piece grabs you! Appreciated your appreciation of media, layers, marks, AND title : )

Dr. Seuss and Fred Rogers were on the same page. A frame or two later in the episode I featured above FR essentially says in his own words that there is no one alive who is you'er than you : )

Re how I do surprise: I certainly do surprise me!

What fun that you found so many subliminal characters frolicking in Kensington Gardens (my family moved to London my senior year in h.s. on assignment, and our home was near KG).

Hi Ophelia, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your enthusiasm. The Fred Rogers episode resonated immediately when I read it b/c I've been so struck by the different art each of us is producing and sharing daily in this 30-in-30. Think of how many of us there are, and already we've each completed seven pieces of art, each piece a reflection of a unique self-expression.

Thanks for sharing the clip, couldn't find it on the blog, no search box. Yes I certainly LOVE crayons, and your piece is wonderful. I love how the reds bring it all together. The colors are happy and bright. Yes a garden to play around in!

Bobbie, thank you. I'm enjoying your lemon posts.

Totally loving this. A garden, indeed.

As for Mr. Rogers, well... what a kind, wonderful, generous man.

Thanks, Kari.

Once I let go of my own initial "huh?" reaction to Mr. Rogers I came to value him as the kind, wonderful, generous, wise, present man he was. He so impresses me.

As it did with Gillian, this one really grabs me. Happy is the word that jumped out at me when I saw it. Kensington Gardens makes me think of a happy place in a happy time of my life. The painting is light and airy and, well, happy!

Joje, such fun to hear your response to this painting—thanks! I was hoping you'd catch the Kensington Gardens title. The Peter Pan statue is at KG, yes?I agree, a happy feeling all the way around. Another day, maybe I'll chronicle the history of this one little painting from start to finish in a single post.

Yup! The statue is in KG

No relation, of course, to the Goony Joany statue.

I am always constantly amazed at the different art produced when artists paint the same scene. That's one of the things that makes art so fascinating.
This painting has a Kadinsky feel to it. Love it.

Marion, thanks for commenting. Yes! I am so in awe of how we just can't be "you-er than you" (see Sheila's reference to Dr. Seuss above) when we paint; I've been particularly aware of the limitless possibilities as I see all the paintings emerging from the 30in30 challenge. I'm further astonished by how different each of my pieces is turning out to be, all from a single start—ahead of time I'da guessed I'd end up with paintings that had some coherence as a series. Now I'm not thinkin' that's gonna happen. Thanks for giving me a nod in the very same breath as Kadinsky!

It took me some time to warm up to Mr Rogers, also, but when my son was little, he loved him. It wasn't until much later that I started noticing his quotes online that I started to pay attention to his message. He was a very kind man, and now I regret not paying more attention.

I really love your artwork, Dotty. There's something about your abstracts that I connect with, and I'm not sure why, exactly, but I did immediately.

I love that Mr. Rogers' essence was strong and pure enough to find its way through all the cultural static that might have kept him from being on television, and for so many years!

Thanks for your kind words about my art. So delighted that we feel pulled to each other's art : )
