Jan 2017 30in30, Day 13

I breathe into simplicity again today.

I take such pleasure in sifting through bunches of my hand-painted collage papers, selecting a few, tearing irregular shapes, and then affixing them on a start that has circulated through to my easel a few times since the beginning of January.

Here's what it looks like with today's additions:

January 2017 30in30 Challenge, Day 13

Glorious! Really like the brights, the marks, and the bit of caramel (?). Love this Dotty, but I am ready to let go when you are ;)

Thank you, Sheila, both for your appreciation of the glorious AND for the belly laugh you gave me when you said you're ready to let go when I am!!

Had to really enlarge this to really SEE all the pieces!!! Such a variety of tones and thinking where will this will be going!!!

This is great! Lively and soothing at the same time... just awesome. Can you tell me what kind of fixative you use? Spray, liquid, paste? And do you affix all of the edges or are some a bit loose? I haven't figured out what kind of fixative is good, especially for tissue paper that won't completely saturate it and give it a weird texture.

Janet, thank you. This particular part of the ongoing process with this piece came together with flow, ease, enjoyment. I, too, love the textures, lights, and darks. Stay tuned, though; it ain't done yet!

Lots of quiet depth here, yes? I, of course, and trying not to THINK about where this will be going but to be open and receptive from my heart center : )

Kari, thanks for your simultaneous-lively-soothing-just-awesome feedback.

When I did the tissue layer, on a different pass with this piece, I used Utrecht matte medium. Just brushed it on, then laid down tissue, brushed over it with more medium. When I affixed the five bits of torn hand-painted collage on this pass, I brushed the same medium in the area where each piece would go, placed the collage, brushed a bit more medium on top, then pressed and smoothed with my finger until the collage was flat and fully pressed into the support and the medium was thinned and even. Does that answer?

I love your writing, Dotty! And not knowing what lies ahead is awesome.........the work and the thought of it. And I'm loving the tissue paper and how you're working with it!

Laurie, thanks for reflecting my words back to me. I write to find out what I'm thinking, and I appreciate your help in the clarification process : )

Not knowing what lies ahead IS awesome, as I'm discovering, having more reflexively been more constrictive than open for way too many of my (many!) years. Thanks for affirmation for the tissue layer!

love this particularly much. like whimsical, magical mountains beckoning...

Thanks, Jen. Your language for this painting sings for me. Perhaps I'll answer the beckoning, hike through through the woods, perhaps even coming out the other side above the tree line : )

This piece should not be going anywhere! It is lovely JUST EXACTLY the way it is. You hear me Dotty??? It needs NOTHING else. OK.....I can shut up now.

Gillian, thank you for your strong sure voice and advice, which I respect and cherish.

That said, um, how shall I put this delicately? … already too late : )

In turn, your reply above offered the perfect laugh to end the day for me and my 10-year-old granddaughter who has been following this conversation over my shoulder with GREAT delight!
