In a Quiet Space

I'm in a quiet space today.

In that quiet space I pick up a small start that came into being over time as I wiped excess paint off my brush while working on other paintings.

I am completely at ease and happily spontaneous as I grab a big fat paint marker, and then a different paint marker, followed by a hairdrier, next oil pastels, after that two "oops!" paint samples I received for Christmas using a metal tooling stylus, then an ink applicator, and finally my camera.

I have a terrific time running around in the quiet space of my painting playground.

One can feel the calmness of the image, even with the really brights of the yellows and pinks. Very tactile!!! Really nice to see that the lessons have spilled over and the spontaneous is coming with ease.
Love those trees or patterns of greens!!! The new year awaits with lots of creative surprises!!!

Carol, thanks for your impressions. The tactile part was fun for me—the "oops!" paints are samples of interior house paints returned for one reason or another at Home Depot. I dipped the handle of a brush in the paint and dripped/pushed it onto my composition. A fun first exploration of those paints. I appreciate your making a connection to my lessons from the class I took—I hadn't thought about that. I also appreciate your reminder that the new year no doubt holds abundant creative surprises—hooray!

Oops paints! Yay! I spy the yellow, and maybe the purple...? xo

Yay, indeed! The second color I used was green (grayish), in the "trees." You can't see it as much in this photo with the green but I love how both paints provided a textural contrast to other elements in the painting, first because I dripped them into place rather than use a brush, but also because they have a different "body" from the other paints and the pastels and inks I used, and because they're semi-gloss enamel, something I didn't even realize until much after the fact. They're awesome! Thanks again : )

Love the energetic sky! The warm and welcoming forest, the serene purple haze. But oh those golden grasses, playfully blowing in the wind! Love it!

Sheila, always enjoy hearing what you see and how you interpret : ) Thank you.

I think you and I might be those grasses, rustling up a little benign mischief!
