MOSTLY MONOCHROME, Day 8

More practice in layering.

Start with color. Add pattern. Add scribbles. Add collage.

And then cover it all up!

Play with a tightly monochromatic palette again.

Even with the little bit of Something Else's being monochromatic, too, it catches the eye, offers up a landing spot, gives a point of purchase from which to seek out whispery evidence of lower layers.

That is quite an assignment! Forces one to work intuitively. Love the result. Can see and feel most of the elements... love the colors Kudos!!!

Thanks, Carol. The monochromatic work was/is very appealing to me. I loved exploring ways to stay monochromatic and yet create little visual beckonings, using collage and tone-on-tone for texture, for example.

I was just thinking back about the paintings you made a year ago. Isn't that fun, how different the things are that you are giving attention now?

Probably if you would be painting landscapes again, that would be so different (and I think so much richer in texture and layering).

I often think back to the difference in what I painted a year ago. Yes, fun to notice how different are the things I give attention to now! And, as you suggest, if I were to paint landscapes and other more realistic subjects again, they would be different from my first such paintings. Thanks for tickling my imagination with these thoughts!

Thank you. It's fun to be posting and taking a fresh look at the pieces in this lesson a bit after the fact (I'm not posting in real time currently). I really enjoyed working with monochrome and creating subtle tone-on-tone enhancements. Need to remember to get back to that. But, for right now, I'm off to the gym to exercise different muscles.
