ATMOSPHERE & SHAPES, Day 9

The fog here is in the ballpark of what I was hoping to create and then build on when working on Atmosphere & Shapes #2I got atmosphere in place with a feeling of depth and three dimensionality.

Looking at this piece now, though, I'm wondering if it would be more dynamic (a) if I'd veiled more opaquely to push the triangles farther back from the surface and (b) if I'd overlapped part of at least one red orb on top of its supporting triangle.

Always something new to investigate.

Licorice and gumdrops. More fun. But I am a little bothered by the matchiness of the two bottom orbs. I like your idea of overlapping. The intertwined triangles are Escheresque!

Sheila, love the licorice and gumdrops image! Thanks for your input on the matchiness of those two bottom orbs—yup!

It is nice indeed to see how the triangles give an impression of threedimensionality. And indeed: when the red balls would appear also on the foreground, it would be getting more that effect I think. Thats' why experiments are so nice. I would never have thought about it, until I now see you doing it!

Simone, thanks for your feedback and observations. Always helpful to have your viewpoint about experiments—I can forget that experimental mindset in no time at all, no matter how mindful I hope to be! Also, as creators we get so close to our work it is often difficult to step back to be objective … which is why Jane kept pushing us to practice doing so!

Love the dynamics of this piece. Agree that maybe one of red circles could be on top of the triangle. Maybe a bit more ceiling but not much if at all. Kudos!!!

Thanks, Carol! I wonder what will eventually become of this study. I don't anticipate my working on it further to revise it in its current form, but I could see cutting it up at some point and then responding to the new pieces in some way.

You are so right!!! I feel that the ultimate lesson is "the journey" and not the finished work. Have to really pound that into my thick head!!!

Thank goodness for our art conversations that help me penetrate my own thick head every now and then : )
