Shapes, Day 7

Made two shapes studies today.

First, I speed-painted a sheet of cheap drawing paper with leftover paints from my stay-wet palette.

Then, I created a textured, layered, relatively neutral background using a palette knife to spread white paint over my speed-start. Very satisfying.

After that, I played with a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate for the first time. Plenty to learn, and I messed up a bunch, but it offered up user-friendly beginner's success pretty quickly. Love the simple piece that emerged.

I opted next to see what I could create using one of my mess-up sheets from the gel plate. And, while I was messing around with new supplies anyway, I tried my hand at spray paint for the first time.

Hey!!!!!!

Two new things. How do you like the spray paint? And I am especially curious about the gel plate. How do you like it? Is it worth buying? I am hesitating, because of the costs. You can make it by yourself - but I don't see myself cooking gelatine and so on. How big is yours? Would you recommend me on? Is it easy to use?

The results look wonderful!

I've been a little impulsive lately, treating myself to all manner of new supplies so as to have more ways to express myself on canvas (paper, whatever). Thanks for reminding me I have that spray paint—I can use it in my current lesson!

Spray paint and gel plate both fun in my first exploration, but I need to play with them more to know their real value. My gel is probably 8x10 inches (too lazy to go look). It will require a bunch of use to get more familiar and adept with it, and since it takes a little more 'work' and prep than other materials I'll need to push/remind myself to use it, I think. Then, it might become invaluable! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for this reply! I am curious to know what how it will work out for you.
At this moment I hardly can keep up with all the new things that I am doing, so no need for more new input ;-)

With any luck, you'll see evidence of my use of my spray paint and gel plate along with some blog commentary!

I TOTALLY identify with your hardly keeping up. I have not felt so frantically busy in a LONG time. My head is spinning.

I know - but these days I don't feel like I am worn out by all the things that I submitted myself to. Today I feel more grateful that I am involved in such a beautiful thing as making art.

Thank you for reminding me to pause and be actively grateful! I meditate daily and begin by enumerating at least 10 very specific things from the prior 24 hours for which I am grateful—art-related gratitude predominates! Right now, my daily life is very much centered around making art : )

Love the new monoprint using gel pad. That is definetly an area I wAnt to explore. Have newsletters about process, can't off hand remember her name. I could forward one if you like.
I would probably have to make my own, never saw them in any art store.

Thanks, Carol. I may try my hand at the gel plate again today—enjoyed my first go at using it. Would love to have you forward newsletter; thanks! I ordered my gel plate on line.
