First Egg Hatches

Years ago, just outside our door, hanging from the roof over the back porch we had a planter in which house finches nested, a happenstance I discovered one morning when I went to water my ivy geranium. Each time I tended that plant, I had the gift of seeing what had transpired since the last time. Shortly after the nest was built, mama finch laid eggs one per day until there were four. After a period of incubation, when it came time for the babies to emerge, they also did so one per day until there were four.

So, too, the paintings in my stripes series!

First baby has emerged from its shell. Mama's still sitting on the other three eggs.

I love this baby bird!! I mean piece of artwork, Dotty. The blues with the purple, the energy, the freshness of it. Well I guess it goes without saying it would be fresh. After all, it was just born! (you are such a trip!) Thank you!

Thank YOU! This was a fun piece to work on. Once it fledges, it will fly off to make its home on a birthday card.

Love to see the development!
What are you exactly painting on? Is this canvas or so?

Thanks for your comment, Simone! I'm painting on Strathmore Canvas Paper (good grief, long URL!)

Thanks for your kind words, Sheila. I just noticed now that the large scale motif I used at the end is egg-shaped! Must have subliminally influenced my writing : )

I love the blogs that accompany your art. You have such a way with words and with painting. (The word "hatch" jumped out at me from Sheila's comment. Does she know that's your maiden name?)

Joje, thanks for your accolades for my words and painting. They bring me pleasure, and I'm always happy when they bring others pleasure as well.

The word "hatch" jumped out at me from Sheila's comment also! She would have no way of knowing my maiden name when she wrote her words above, but perhaps she'll read your comments and make that discovery!
